MassEnergize Paid Internship -- Climate Communications Associate

About MassEnergize
At MassEnergize, we believe that it is critical that we engage our communities to be vocal and visible about responding to the climate emergency with individual, household, and systems level change. We formed MassEnergize with a mission to provide community leaders with the tools and resources to motivate and support their residents, businesses and non-profits in a wide array of actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and prepare for a changing climate.
Our current areas of focus include:
- Providing a web platform to help communities create a customized portal to engage residents and local businesses. See our local web platforms developed with our tools here. The tool has a powerful back end to allow community organizers and MassEnergize to assess our impact and evaluate outreach strategies across communities.
- Curating and sharing community engagement playbooks and tools.
- Convening a community of practice of climate organizers in over 20 communities.
- Supporting communities through various outreach programs
Intern - Communications Associate
The Communications Associate will help MassEnergize to expand our reach, develop creative ways to engage with clients, donors, and the public, and raise our profile as an effective and impactful organization working on climate issues in Massachusetts.
The Intern will work remotely for 15-20 hours per week. Interns will meet weekly with their MassE supervisor via video call, and with other staff as needed.
Intern will projects will include:

Develop and implement social media strategies to support outreach and engagement across MassEnergize communities and organizational channels

Create and curate visual and multimedia content—including graphics, Canva templates, and Instagram Reels—for use by local communities and MassEnergize

Support the planning and execution of communications and outreach for the 2026 Annual Community Climate Leaders Conference (April 2026)

Contribute to the production of the monthly MassEnergize newsletter and other digital communications

Assist with fundraising and donor engagement efforts through targeted communications

Attend and support Community of Practice monthly meetings and help amplify community-led stories and successes

Support outreach efforts in selected MassEnergize communities as needed
Ideal candidates should have strong writing, visual and social media, and communication skills and be able to work independently, via the internet with occasional in-person meetings. Experience with video production and editing, as well as web content development, is a plus.
