Systems Engineers help ensure that SYSO’s portfolio of renewable energy assets are monitored 24/7/365 and that controls systems are performing as efficiently as possible. Candidates for this unique role will have a passion for clean energy and the vital technology that empowers it. Systems Engineers manage and troubleshoot various integrations with energy control systems including communications protocols, point mapping, and networking across multiple markets in North America. Attention to detail, organizational skills, and proven experience in a similar capacity will be essential to the success of this role.

At SYSO, we manage the real-time energy market operations and monitoring of renewables and battery storage assets. Our Network Operations Center works 24/7 to execute day-to-day asset operations, respond to grid and system events, and optimize performance through centralized control systems. The team develops operating strategies, manages telemetry and voice communication with grid operators and partners, and coordinates with stakeholders to ensure consistent and reliable performance. Key Responsibilities:
• Serve as Operations lead for technical systems, tools, and power plant system integrations
• Support remote terminal unit (RTU) infrastructure in SYSO data center
• Manage network configurations and systems integrations of newly installed renewable energy assets
• Assist in commissioning of new assets including controls testing for basic functionality, ancillary services, etc.
• Monitor and troubleshoot network connectivity across SYSO’s network of assets
• Configure and respond to hardware and software alerts to optimize asset performance
• Support SYSO’s 24/7 network services coverage and take part in a rotation of on-call shifts
• Fully understand contractual and regulatory issues relating to the regional grid operator, our clients, and other parties
• Represent a team who strives for operational excellence and first-class customer service
• Perform other duties as required
Required Qualifications/Skills/Education:
• Bachelor’s degree in technical field or equivalent experience in electrical or software engineering
• 2-5 years’ experience developing and maintaining technical systems or in an operational environment
• Proficient in computer networking hardware and software
• Experience with SQL query development and reporting
• Working knowledge of TCP/IP Networking and troubleshooting tools
• Experience using automated monitoring and alerting tools such as Grafana, Datadog, SolarWinds, or similar platforms
• Passion for team collaboration and customer service
• Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills
• Ability to apply creativity and objectivity while solving technical problems
Desired Qualifications/Skills/Education:
• Proficiency using command line interfaces for Linux or Windows
• Knowledge of MODBUS, ICCP, DNP3 or other industrial protocols
• Experience or coursework in energy sector, specifically the electric power industry, distributed energy resources, energy management, and related technologies
• Experience with process improvement methodologies
• Familiarity with Salesforce or similar CRM platform
