Job intro

HEET is a nonprofit climate solutions incubator with a mission to cut carbon emissions now through systems change. Data-based and nimble, we iterate our ideas in a wide coalition to share knowledge and find the best way forward. Key to our success is a non-traditional, diverse workforce that is willing to break traditional barriers and work together for an inclusive and just world.

Research shows that structurally marginalized groups or people with non-traditional work experience apply to jobs only if they meet 100% of the qualifications. HEET encourages you to break that statistic and apply.

Job Description

HEET is seeking a Director of Funding to strategically coordinate and execute fundraising for our growing nonprofit through both grants and individual giving. This includes identifying and prioritizing opportunities, relationship building with potential funders, working in broad coalitions, writing grant applications and grant reports, and managing multiple work streams and deadlines.

You will report to HEET’s Executive Director and work closely and collaboratively with team members, including to plan and guide a long term strategic fundraising plan for the organization. As HEET’s work rapidly gains national prominence, the Director of Funding has the opportunity to steward the organization’s growth into its next phase.

We are a small team, with an adaptive organizational structure. Position descriptions are therefore approximate, not inclusive of all possible job duties, and dynamic: applicants should be comfortable and excited to try new things, learn, and pitch in to support colleagues as needed. We are looking for a motivated and mature self-starter who can work both independently and as a collaborative team member dedicated to promoting HEET’s mission and committed to HEET’s values: integrity, abundance, inclusion, practicality, nimbleness, innovation and compassion.

Job Duties/Responsibilities
  • Collaboratively develop a comprehensive fundraising plan to support HEET’s strategic plan
  • Research funding opportunities, including both private foundations and public funding opportunities
  • Discern which opportunities are best for HEET’s needs
  • Build and maintain relationships with existing and potential funders
  • Write compelling grant proposals, working effectively with ED, Finance Director, and others
  • Track reporting deadlines and compile required  reports for funders
  • Maintain and improve our donor database
  • Track donor engagement and analyze fundraising data to improve systems
  • Collaborate with the Communications team to develop effective donor communications
Qualifications
  • At least 2 years of experience specifically in grant writing and fundraising
  • Experience managing multiple projects with multiple contributors
  • Ability to wisely choose opportunities and guide a growing organization
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
  • Open-minded and self-driven
  • Knowledge of private foundations funding climate work is a plus
  • Experience with government grants is a plus
  • Comfort with clean energy technology and language is a plus
  • Excitement for HEET’s mission of reducing carbon emissions is a plus
Benefits

HEET offers 100% health insurance, FSA/DCA, pre-tax retirement and transit accounts, three weeks of paid leave plus the week between Christmas and New Year’s, 12 holidays, two floating holidays, two personal days, and 12 days of sick leave. Employee scheduling needs can generally be accommodated in our highly flexible work environment. We strive to create opportunities for professional development and growth for everyone on the HEET team.

Location: HEET is a hybrid work environment. Weekly in-person team days at our Boston office are required and additional in-person work during the week is expected. This is a full-time position, between 30-40 hours per week.
