Sustainability and Green Building Consulting Internship

Job Overview:  Are you passionate about sustainability, detail-oriented and data-driven, and inspired to develop practical solutions for the built environment?  We are looking for an intern to join our small but growing consulting practice to support green building projects, climate and sustainability planning in the higher education sector.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with client sustainability projects, including tasks such as:
    • Reviewing building design and construction documents for consistency with 3rd party standards (primarily the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, or “LEED” rating system)
    • Gathering and analyzing data in Excel
    • Researching green building practices such as energy/water conservation and healthy materials
    • Developing documentation for LEED green building projects
    • Support for other client projects as needs arise (such as campus sustainability social media campaigns, corporate sustainability reports, benchmarking, etc.)
  • Collaborating with the Riverstone team and clients to develop sustainability strategies for building projects and campus operations
  • Attend client sustainability project meetings to take meeting minutes and coordinate team action items
  • Administrative support such as scheduling client meetings and document file-sharing
  • Other duties as assigned such as research, event and marketing support, and communications

Structure:  This internship is an hourly, full-time internship (up to 40 hours per week) during the summer of 2024. The position will report to Debra Shepard, Principal and Owner of Riverstone Sustainability and working in close collaboration with clients. The position will be based remotely, with the potential for occasional site meetings in Boston and/or Newburyport, MA. The internship will take place for 12 weeks between June and August 2024.  Opportunities for future employment may be discussed at the conclusion of the internship, if the candidate is a good fit.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Graduate student or recent graduate with experience in STEM fields, environmental management, architecture/design, or other relevant disciplines
  • Working knowledge of topics related to sustainability, green buildings, and climate change
  • Excellent research and technical skills, ability to synthesize information from various sources, including public datasets, industry standards/best practices, and estimation
  • Experience collecting and analyzing data (via Excel and other software)
  • Experience with Microsoft suite and online collaboration tools
  • Strong communication and writing skills; ability to present findings in a thoughtful and concise manner
  • Entrepreneurial working style and ability to work independently and problem-solve
