Description

Position Description March 2024

Business Development/Operations Intern
Hybrid position, based out of our Concord, MA headquarters
Full-time paid Internship, May 2024 thru August 2024

Want to join a company that does good for the world? Do you care about the work you do and its impact on the future of our planet? Do you want caring coworkers and a good work/life balance? Join the Abode Energy Management (Abode) team, where you won’t ever want to leave.  We’re fun, kind, passionate, progressive, and innovative. We are a fast-growing energy efficiency program implementer in the Northeast, focusing on electrification and heat pump adoption.

Summary/Objective

Abode provides services to utilities and state agencies to a) ensure that contractors provide quality weatherization/energy efficiency services to homeowners, and b) help accelerate the adoption of decarbonization measures such as heat pumps by homeowners.  We are seeking one or more interns this summer to help out in both areas.  Some of the work to be done by interns will focus on conducting market research to help Abode better understand what other work is underway nationally in both of these areas so we can better target our business development efforts, and some will focus on helping operationally with day-to-day work needed to support contractors and homeowners.  This is a terrific opportunity for a student or recent graduate to apply their interests in sustainability along with their research and communication skills to get hands-on experience helping a small growing business increase its impact.

Responsibilities

Specific tasks will be defined further at the start of the summer, but they may include:

  • Researching current initiatives, programs, and incentives for decarbonization efforts underway in specific states
  • Compiling data and findings from recent decarbonization pilot projects Abode is working on to help create reports or other materials to convey lessons learned
  • Assembling materials needed to help Abode begin an application to become a B Corp; developing a workplan for next steps
  • Reviewing and approving project documentation required for homeowners to move forward with electrification projects.  Work with other Abode staff to troubleshoot and resolve documentation roadblocks, enabling projects to proceed.
  • Reaching out to homeowners to schedule inspections or consultations; responding to emails and inquiries
  • Other related projects/tasks as assigned by your manager.

Qualifications

Must-Haves:

  • Either currently enrolled in or a recent graduate of a 2- or 4-year college, university, or graduate program in Massachusetts, OR be a MA resident that recently attended an out-of-state college or university.
  • Be accepted for participation in the MassCEC Clean Energy Internship Program (a simple process we can help you navigate).
  • Be a US citizen or authorized to work in the US

Ideally you also bring most, if not all, of the following skills and experience:

  • Demonstrated interest in climate change, sustainability, green building science, or other issues related to Abode’s day-to-day work
  • Clear, effective oral and written communications skills
  • Collaborative team player; brings a positive can-do attitude and pride in completing tasks on time and done right
  • A self-starter, able to proactively manage competing demands and changing schedules to complete tasks in a timely and diligent manner
  • Comfortable with learning and navigating office-related software

Job Details and How to Apply

This is a temporary, non-exempt, hourly, not eligible for benefits, full-time position.  The intern will be paid $18 per hour.  You will generally work remotely much of the time from your own home but you and your manager will be able to work out a schedule that is a blend of working out of your own home and coming into the office periodically as needed.

To apply, please send a resume and cover letter to careers@AbodeEM.com with subject line “Application for Business Development/Operations Intern position”.  Applications will not be considered without a cover letter clearly explaining why you would be a good fit for this position.  We look forward to hearing from you!
