Business development internship in a waste to concrete clean tech start-up, reporting to CEO

Job Details
Description

This internship is for a business degree graduate student, interested in joining an early-stage clean tech start-up, CemCycle, on a mission to significantly reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from two highly polluting sectors: organic waste management and concrete production, together representing nearly 12% of all annual GHG emissions, thanks to an innovative “waste to concrete additive” technology. The internship will focus on supporting CemCycle’s CEO as she works on assessing the market potential of the technology and confirms its go to market strategy. This is a unique opportunity to work with a seasoned business professional on the early stages of a start-up development and to get immersed into the Massachusetts clean tech ecosystem. CemCycle recently took part in two clean tech venture studio programs in Massachusetts: the MassCEC/Fedtech Climate tech Venture studio program and the Blueprint program at the Engine and has access to those related ecosystems to develop its business

The internship’s ideal duration is three months: June to August 2025.

The internship’s scope of work will include a combination of the following activities. The exact scope will be determined by the CEO based on latest business priorities at the start of the internship:

  • Identifying assumptions’ gaps in the business model and a workplan to validate those assumptions. Running scenario analysis. Identifying ways to translate research data into financial model assumptions.
  • Conducting a waste supply-chain assessment (price, availability, partnership types) to generate a scorecard for different feedstocks, based on desk research as well as experts and stakeholders’ interviews
  • Assessing other beachhead markets for CemCycle’s products, by identifying relevant contacts in additional sectors and connecting with those new experts / prospects
  • Supporting the development of CemCycle’s pitch deck. This could include improving the presentation based on feedback received or preparing back-up analysis and slides.

The intern will report to CemCycle’s CEO, a 20+ years business executive with experiences in strategy, business creation and growth in a variety of sectors.

The intern will have opportunities to meet and discuss with the technical team, attend technical roadmap meetings and potentially observe chemical engineering experiments being run at Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, MA.
