We are looking for a Senior Data Scientist to play a pivotal role in our organization to help our data science and R&D teams drive accuracy and data quality improvements in the weather-based inputs to our core dynamic line rating models.

Job Duties/Responsibilities: 

You will have primary responsibility for leveling up LineVision’s expertise in atmospheric science and help us translate your findings into operational python code.

  • Independently investigate impacts of meteorological phenomena such as precipitation, dew, wind speed, and solar radiation on LineVision data streams by formulating and testing your own data-driven hypotheses.
  • Find root cause for anomalies in forecasted weather and sensor time series data.
  • Identify new sources of ground truth data to analyze the reliability and accuracy of weather forecasts from various local sensors, commercial vendors, and government weather forecast models.
  • Document and communicate findings and assumptions related to weather data and weather forecasting with internal stakeholders and external customers.
  • Work closely with the Data Engineering team to productionize your data science findings and deliver results to our electric utility customers.
Qualifications: 
  • Ideally a background in a physical science: atmospheric science, meteorology, numerical weather prediction, geophysics, climate science.
  • Ability to drive your own research agenda as an independent researcher such as a recent PhD grad, a track record of research work at a National Laboratory, or successfully driving end-to-end investigatory data science projects at a startup or large company.
  • Python experience preferred
  • Standard data science tools: pandas, numpy, SQL, matplotlib, Jupyter notebooks
  • Experience with time series and geospatial data
