Applied Economics Clinic (AEC) has an open position for a qualified Researcher. AEC is looking for a current PhD student or recent PhD graduate in a technical field (economics, engineering, science, etc.) with a focus on applied economic issues, preferably in the field of energy. Graduate students or recent graduates of a Master’s program with excellent technical skills and energy sector experience will also be considered. The ideal candidate would be able to provide expert analysis for clients in the areas of the energy sector, environmental impacts, and equity impacts. We are specifically looking for candidates who see the value in a good work-life balance and are passionate about serving the needs of our public interest clients. Candidates are expected to bring strong technical and quantitative skills to AEC’s project work.

Job Duties/Responsibilities: 

We are looking for a Researcher with:
(1) Enthusiasm for working on issues related to energy, environment, equity and other consumer rights
(2) Closely related graduate educational experience
(3) Interest in mentoring junior staff


Mandatory qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field or a Bachelor’s degree in any technical field (economics, engineering, science, etc.) with minimum two years relevant experience
  • Strong quantitative skills
  • Strong interest in some or all the following topics: climate, energy, environment, consumer issues, and equity
  • Strong technical and popular audience writing skills
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and manage time well
  • Ability to work collaboratively, sharing tasks, knowledge, and work space with colleagues
  • Willingness to learn and use feedback to improve

Desired qualifications:

  • PhD in any technical field (economics, engineering, science, etc.)
  • Experience in statistics, modeling, and/or other forms of quantitative analysis; energy modeling experience is especially useful
  • Background in energy, environment or equity issues
