About the Position
IREC is seeking an experienced, self-motivated, and innovative Elearning Instructional Designer to design, develop, update, and maintain learning content for adults. IREC training is focused on increasing the effectiveness of a range of professionals with clean energy technologies, such as solar, energy storage, wind, building performance, and energy efficiency. Reporting to IREC’s Director of Training Development, the Elearning Instructional Designer will collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs) and stakeholders to identify training gaps and produce content that removes barriers to the deployment of clean energy across the country.

Job Duties/Responsibilities: 

Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop engaging and memorable learning experiences, with interactive activities including scenarios, simulations, and games
  • Work with SMEs or independently to assess learner needs and develop outcomes-based learning objectives that align with best practices and industry standards
  • Plan and facilitate effective stakeholder and SME meetings that enable development of relevant content to support learning objectives
  • Collaborate with the training team to develop design strategies for online courses
  • Build storyboards and narration scripts
  • Develop materials using elearning authoring software (Articulate, Captivate, Camtasia studio, etc.)
  • Leverage graphics and video content to support learning objectives
  • Provide quality control support for the training team
  • Evaluate training effectiveness and propose changes to improve courses
  • Administer “IREC Online” IREC’s learning management system (Elevate platform)
Qualifications: 

Essential Knowledge/Skills/Experience/Qualities:
Required

  • Five years of experience conceptualizing and developing online learning for adults
  • BA/BS degree
  • Demonstrated ability to apply instructional design theory, models, and technical training best practices
  • Proficiency with e-learning authoring and development tools, such as Articulate 360 (including Rise and Storyline), Captivate, and related SCORM compliant production tools
  • Elearning design and development experience, including storyboarding and script writing
  • Independent and motivated to handle multiple complex projects and effectively adhere to deadlines and project plans
  • Ability to use multimedia tools to produce and edit audio/visual elements
  • Ability to meet deadlines and communicate challenges
  • Ability to work in a geographically distributed virtual team environment
  • Excellent writing and interpersonal skills
  • Interest in clean energy and climate issues

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, instructional design, educational technology, or related field
  • Master’s degree in eLearning, instructional design, or a related field
  • Graphic design skills
  • Experience in the nonprofit or higher education sector
  • LMS administration: including course development, student group creation, assignments,
    reporting, and troubleshooting technical issues
  • Web development experience
Benefits: 

Type: 80-100% of full-time; exempt
Salary: Commensurate with experience
