Greentown Labs is hiring a dynamic, mission-oriented, self-starter Community Director to oversee and manage its rapidly growing community of 100+ cleantech and climate-oriented startups. This person will foster and curate Greentown Labs’ community programming to suit and exceed the needs of its members, ensuring the incubator experience is valuable and impactful for each startup. 
The Community Director is responsible for membership management which entails a host of responsibilities including: fielding member questions and requests, anticipating needs and identifying new resources for Greentown members, facilitating introductions to relevant mentors, encouraging and facilitating connections among our member community, and proactively providing services and resources to our members as they grow their businesses. To be successful in this highly collaborative role, the Community Director must work seamlessly with the entire Greentown Labs team to ensure top-notch customer service for our member community. The right candidate will be a creative thinker, enthusiastic networker, and detail-oriented project manager with a passion for supporting early-stage, cleantech entrepreneurs.


Job Duties/Responsibilities: 

Primary responsibilities of this role

  • Day-to-day management of, engagement with, and strategic planning for the member community; 
  • Constantly facilitate cross-campus connections, ensuring our members are collaborating and connecting with each other as often as possible/helpful; 
  • Serve as a first point of contact to address the needs of our member community, often liasing with other Greentown Labs team members;
  • Strategy, management and execution of member community programming and events;
  • Tracking engagement and results of programming to inform planning of future offerings;
  • Leadership and maintenance of our intranet and other member communications channels; 
  • Strategic planning, recruitment, and procurement of new resources for the Greentown Labs community based on member feedback; 
  • Leadership of bi-weekly new member orientation session to welcome and introduce all new member company employees to our community’s policies, procedures and guidelines; 
  • Strategy and management of Greentown Labs’ alumni member network; 
  • Leadership and management of community-oriented grants; 
  • Leadership and management of quarterly community surveys; 
  • Participation in new member interview and review process;
  • Leadership of offboarding and exit interviews with graduating member companies;
  • Leadership of tours through Greentown Labs when appropriate; and 
  • Liaison with Somerville neighbor organizations and other relevant regional startup support organizations.

You have experience with and genuinely enjoy working at a startup or within a startup ecosystem, and you’re passionate about building community. 
Your education + experience include:  

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field;
  • Deep knowledge of the startup world;
  • 5+ years experience working for a startup support organization or at a startup;
  • At least two years working to foster community in some capacity (professionally or personally); 
  • Experience with project management, time management, event management, and customer service; 
  • Experience in the cleantech or environmental industry is a plus;
  • Strong public speaking skills; and
  • An interest in learning on-the-job, a can-do attitude, and comfort in being pushed outside of your comfort zone. 

Physical Demands + Working Environment: 

  • A fast-paced work environment;
  • Role requires ability to work some evenings, typically one evening per week; 
  • Position requires extended periods of prolonged standing during set-up for events and during events; and 
  • Must be able to lift or move items up to 25lbs using proper lifting techniques.
