The Applied Economics Clinic (AEC) has an open position for a qualified Assistant Researcher. (Depending on experience and qualifications of applicants, AEC may hire for the more senior role of Researcher).

Job Duties/Responsibilities: 

Assistant Researcher job description
AEC is a non-profit consulting firm providing services in the areas of energy, climate, other environmental issues, and social equity. An AEC Assistant Researcher supports project managers to perform research and analysis for our clients (public interest environmental and social equity advocacy groups and agencies).
Tasks and responsibilities for an Assistant Researcher include:
·       Research and summarize information on energy, environment and equity topics as directed by project managers (30%)
·       Organize and analyze data as directed by project managers (30%)
·       Attend meetings and conferences with AEC staff, clients, and other experts (10%)
·       Assist with writing projects including social media, proposals for new projects, and authoring AEC blog posts (10%)
·       Assist with internal organizational needs including invoicing, website upkeep, and other critical administrative tasks shared by all employees (10%)
·       Attend trainings to advance in skill and knowledge (10%)
AEC is looking for a candidate with a Bachelor’s degree in a technical field (economics, engineering, science, etc.) with experience or interest in the areas of energy, environment, or social equity. Please review our mandatory and desired qualifications below and note that we do not necessarily eliminate applicants who do not tick all our boxes; the ideal candidate is enthusiastic about AEC’s work and mission and ready to learn. This is a full-time position—only applicants who can work full-time will be considered. We also expect all applicants to be willing and able to work a minimum of two days per week from our Arlington, MA office. (AEC staff are currently working remotely but plan to return to a hybrid office plan soon.)

Mandatory qualifications:
·       Bachelor’s degree in any technical field (economics, engineering, science, etc.)
·       Fluency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel
·       Good technical and popular audience writing skills
·       Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and manage time well
·       Ability to work collaboratively, sharing tasks, knowledge, and workspace with colleagues
·       Willingness to learn and use feedback to improve
Desired (but not required) qualifications:
·       Master’s degree in any technical field (economics, engineering, science, etc.)
·       Experience working on climate, energy, environment, consumer issues or equity issues, particularly in a research and/or consulting capacity
·       Experience in statistics, modeling, and/or other forms of quantitative analysis; energy modeling experience is especially useful
·       Excellent technical and popular audience writing skills

Based in Arlington, Massachusetts, the Applied Economics Clinic (AEC, is a mission-based non-profit consulting group that offers expert services in the areas of energy, environment, consumer protection, and equity from seasoned professionals while providing on-the-job training to the next generation of technical experts.
AEC’s non-profit status allows us to provide lower-cost services than most consultancies and when we receive foundation grants, AEC also offers services on a pro bono basis. AEC Mission
