EnergySage, the leading solar marketplace that connects solar customers with local installers, had a year of significant growth in 2016. Backed by the U.S. Department of Energy, the company sent nearly $1 billion in solar installation requests over the course of the year. MassCEC first invested in EnergySage in October of 2014, and made two follow-on investments in 2016 as part of fundraising rounds to finance product development, expanded operations, and enhanced marketing strategies. Following those fundraising rounds, EnergySage announced a groundbreaking program to expand solar deployment in the spring of 2016, partnering with National Grid to bring EnergySage’s marketplace to residential customers. In addition, the company launched the nation’s first marketplace for community solar in November, and the company was recognized by Consumer Reports for its work to bring transparency and informed choice to solar customers across the country.
