Traditionally, the application of numerical models has been reserved for academic or high-profile and high-budget projects. As the problems tackled by ocean and coastal engineers get ever more complex, the application of numerical modeling to support a wide range of planning and design decisions has become increasingly familiar. Modeling can be used to provide insight on a wide variety of questions such as predicting storm surge elevations near critical infrastructure and understanding the influence of tidally-driven intracoastal circulation on water quality or developing design wave conditions for a shoreline protection project. For this EBC Ocean and Coastal Resources program a group of industry experts and practitioners will present their practical experiences and perspectives to explore a range of numerical modeling applications, including case studies and lessons learned.
