SourceOne is seeking a Principle Engineer or Senior Project Manager to lead Energy Engineering Services projects based in Boston, Massachusetts. Our engineers put just as much emphasis on client relationships as they do to their engineering and analysis. The work environment is dynamic, entrepreneurial, and fast-paced. Energy Engineering Services is responsible for providing our clients technical solutions in all areas of the energy industry. This most commonly includes central utility plants, power generation stations, combined heat and power (CHP) plants, boiler and chiller plants, electrical substations, renewable energy (solar and wind) facilities, and thermal and electric distribution systems. SourceOne’s clients include airports, universities, colleges, data centers, industrial facilities, commercial facilities, government facilities, military facilities, and other facilities with critical central utility plants. The Principle Engineer or Senior Project Manager must be a results-oriented individual with a professional track record of providing profitable professional services with a high level of client satisfaction.

The position is multifaceted and involves active management of an engineering team, individual projects, and client relationships. This position will combine strong leadership, personal communication, and technical skills to develop, manage and maintain SourceOne’s challenging and diverse energy consulting portfolio. This role will provide guidance and mentoring of junior staff and is considered a key leadership role within the company.

Job Duties/Responsibilities: 

Technical Attributes: 
•Provide engineering guidance throughout development, construction, project commissioning, and operations, including proposals, technical reports, cost estimates, and presentations. 
•Serve as single point overall technical contact coordinating directly with clients’ technical team and their contractors. 
•Determine and develop the most reliable and cost effective solutions to complex energy engineering problems and prepare studies/scope statements that identify alternative solutions. 
•Work with clients to create scoring criteria and measurements of success for proposed energy projects. Identify and develop initial conceptual designs for supply-side and demand-side energy projects. This includes the preparation of energy models and savings calculations, as well as all necessary engineering and financial assessments to define the project’s value proposition. 
•Combine the use of computer simulation tools, energy consumption profiles, utility rates and rebate programs, utility supply options, engineering economics, and cost-savings calculations to qualify and quantify potential energy projects. 
•Analyze and calculate energy savings for the implementation of complex projects involving chiller and boiler plants, motors, VFDs, HVAC retrofits, and distributed generation projects. 
•Perform energy regulatory evaluations and distill findings into summary technical impacts to potential project development opportunities. 

Management and Project Management Attributes: 
•Lead multi-disciplined teams to effectively work projects across multiple locations. 
•Lead visits to client project sites to investigate and document existing or proposed utility and energy infrastructure. 
•Manage projects, project teams, clients, project budgets, and project schedules while ensuring they adequately cover design and scope of supply requirements. 
•Develop compelling business cases using a variety of financial and budgetary metrics. 
•Oversee energy project cost estimating, budgeting, and accounting. 
•Work with customer and project team to define and manage project deliverables to support the project’s needs. Ensure complete communication and understanding of each other’s requirements, expectations, and best practices. 
•Lead interaction with the client’s organization, including technical and financial decision makers. 
•Identify and implement internal best practices and process standardization. 
•Support management efforts to facilitate employee development and training. 
•Engage senior management in development of long range planning. 

Business Development Attributes: 
•Conduct front-line presale engineering consulting and assist business development staff with budgetary proposal creation and act as subject matter expert at client prospecting meetings. 
•Identify new clients opportunities while maintaining existing client relationships 
•Assist with marketing efforts to develop new opportunities. 
•Participate in pre-award and contract negotiation presentations and meetings. 
•Identify and support development of new business relationships and opportunities 
•Manage relationships with key clients and identify upsell opportunities. 


For Principle Engineer Role: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in related engineering field from an accredited university
  • Minimum of ten years of experience within the energy industry
  • Minimum of five years of engineering project management experience
  • Management or supervisory experience

For Senior Project Manager Role: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in related engineering field from an accredited university
  • Master’s degree in related field OR professional engineering licensure
  • Minimum of fifteen years of experience within the energy industry
  • Minimum of five years of engineering project management experience
  • Management or supervisory experience

• Proven ability to manage projects across various engineering disciplines, including mechanical, electrical, chemical, and civil. 
• Experience with both supply-side and demand-side energy projects (or a combination thereof). 
• Experience in development, design, operation, and/or maintenance of mechanical and electrical energy generation and delivery systems. These include power, steam, hot water, and chilled water generation, transmission, and distribution. 
• Proven power generation and energy efficiency project development and implementation experience with excellent analytical skills to develop and assess a variety of end use processes. 
• Ability to analyze and present technical and financial value propositions to variety of audiences; from executive level to plant operations staff. 
• Knowledge and proficiency of design and construction methods for HVAC, building automation systems, lighting, and other energy consuming systems. 
• Successful track record of consultative selling, proposal development, and account management experience. 
• Demonstrated ability to cultivate and manage relationships with both new and existing clients 
• PE, CEM, PMP credentials a plus 
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Project, Excel a must. AutoCAD experience desirable 
• Up to 40% travel may be required. Travel will typically be short-duration, project-specific, and in the Northeast region.
