The Accounting Intern at Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (MassCEC) will apply principles of accounting to play a key role in supporting MassCEC’s accounting department. The Accounting Intern will report to the Senior Accountant, but will work closely with the Staff Accountant and Controller, and will interact with all levels of the organization. This role will also provide exposure to the clean energy industry. The internship is approximately 16-24 hours per week, on a schedule mutually worked out between the intern and MassCEC.

Job Duties/Responsibilities: 
  • Assist with monthly close prepaid reconciliation schedules;
  • Assist with monthly close accrual reconciliations and schedules, including statement reconciliation for significant vendors;
  • Assist with fixed asset and depreciation schedules and monthly reconciliations;
  • Assist with monthly subledger tie-outs to the general ledger, including accounts receivable and accounts payable;
  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliations for review;
  • Assist with preparation of the monthly close binder for Accounting Department review;
  • Regularly review and reconcile financial data on MassCEC and state-wide websites;
  • Prepare ad hoc reports and schedules as requested;
  • Assist Accounting Department with annual budget and quarterly reforecasting process;
  • Assist with annual 1099 review;
  • Prepare and organize meeting materials;
  • Assist with managing Accounting meetings in Outlook;
  • Assist with document preparation and printing for Board of Directors meetings;
  • Prepare supporting schedules for yearly audit as needed;
  • Assist Accounting Department on any special ad hoc projects and administrative tasks; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

The intern will work under the supervision of the Senior Accountant.



  • Currently a junior or senior at an accredited college or university studying Accounting

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
  • Previous Accounting or Bookkeeping skills preferred;
  • Self-starter who enjoys working in a team environment;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail;
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft PowerPoint and Microsoft Excel;
  • Experience with Great Plains, a plus;
  • Previous office and co-op/internship experience preferred; and
  • Interest in clean energy or environmental policy is useful, but not required.
