DOE Systems Level Technology Development, Integration, and Demonstration for Efficiency Class 8 Trucks (SuperTruck) and Advanced Technology Powertrains for Light-Duty Vehicles (ATP-LD)
The DOE National Energy Technology Laboratory has released a FOA for approximately $170 million to $185 for development and demonstration of significant increases in vehicle efficiency for Class 8 trucks and for development of cost-competitive engine and powertrain systems for light-duty vehicles. It is anticipated that 3-5 awards of $40 million to $80 million will be given for work on Class 8 trucks and 3-6 awards of $5 million to $15 million will be given for work on light-duty vehicles.
DOE’s principal goal for Class 8 trucks is to develop and demonstrate a 50% total increase in vehicle freight efficiency measured in ton-miles per gallon. The principal goal for light-duty vehicles is to attain at least a 25% fuel economy improvement for gasoline fueled vehicles and at least 40% fuel economy improvement for diesel fueled vehicles while meeting future emissions standards.
The cost share is 50% but 25% may be considered with appropriate justification. Eligible applicants are all types of domestic entities, including companies, non-profits, institutions of higher education, and local and state governments. Other Federal agencies and Federally Funded Research and Development Center (FFRDC) contractors are not eligible applicants, although FFRDCs can serve as subcontractors. The application deadline is September 9.
