As part of its mission to support clean energy technologies and foster sustainable markets for electricity generated from renewable sources, MassCEC provides financial assistance to businesses, non-profits and communities to study the feasibility of renewable energy and to install solar panels and wind turbines at their facilities. The following programs are geared towards helping businesses, non-profits and communities contribute to the Commonwealth’s clean energy future.
Commonwealth Solar
The Commonwealth Solar II Rebate Program provides rebates for the installation of photovoltaic (PV) systems up to 10 kilowatts (kW) and all residential systems (regardless of size), with a rebate calculation capped at 5kW. These rebates are awarded on a rolling basis, through a non-competitive application process. The program is currently funded at $1 million per quarter.
Commonwealth Hydropower Initiative
The Commonwealth Hydropower Initiative provides grant funding for the upgrade of existing hydropower facilities to increase their energy output, and the development of new “conduit”-type facilities. Facilities must meet, or be working to meet, the requirements for qualification for the Massachusetts Renewable Portfolio Standard.
Commonwealth Wind: Micro Wind and Community-Scale Wind
The Commonwealth Wind program helps responsibly-sited wind energy projects of all scales achieve successful and timely installation. Financial assistance is available for businesses, non-profits and communities through the Micro Wind and Community-Scale Wind initiatives. Wind projects at residential, commercial, industrial, and public facilities that are customers of investor-owned electric distribution utilities or Municipal Light Plant Departments that pay into MassCEC’s Renewable Energy Trust fund are eligible for funding.
