DOE has released a FOA for about $50 million for approximately 5 to 15 awards to develop new technologies to dramatically improve energy efficiency in information and communications technologies with an the emphasis on new technologies that can be commercialized within the next three to five years, and to demonstrate through field testing highly energy efficient, emerging technologies that are ready for or are in the initial stage of commercial introduction.  The FOA has three areas of interest: (1) concept definition studies; (2) R&D in equipment and software, power supply chain, and cooling; and (3) demonstration and field testing.  The cost share for concept definition studies and R&D is 20% but 10% may be considered with appropriate justification.  The cost share for demonstration and field testing is 50% but 25% may be considered with appropriate justification.  Eligible applicants are all types of domestic entities, including companies, non-profits, institutions of higher education, and local and state governments.  Other Federal agencies and Federally Funded Research and Development Center (FFRDC) contractors are not eligible applicants.
