Commercial Wind Resource Assessment Grants

The Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (MassCEC) is now accepting Wind Resource Assessment Grant applications on a rolling basis for eligible Commercial Wind projects. These grants provide assistance for installing meteorological towers for commercial, non-public wind projects that meet all of the following requirements:

  • Expected project capacity of greater than 2.0 MW,
  • The potential to host at least three wind turbines, and
  • Plan to serve the wholesale power market.

Projects that are not eligible commercial wind projects are encouraged to apply to MassCEC’s Community-Scale wind program.

Wind Resource Assessment Grants provide up to $30,000 with for the installation of a meteorological tower and a wind resource assessment on a qualifying site. A minimum 25% cost share is required of the applicant.

The goal of the Wind Resource Assessment Grant is to provide financial assistance for commercial wind developers to measure and analyze the wind resource at potential commercial wind project sites. For approved applications, MassCEC will award a grant to lease wind monitoring equipment for a period of 12 months to monitor the wind resource at the site and to analyze the data that is collected.

MassCEC’s Commercial Wind program seeks to reduce the early stage risk associated with commercial wind development projects. It currently provides funding for site assessments and wind resource assessments. Further information can be found on the Commercial Wind program page.

If you have any questions about the solicitation, please contact us at commercialwind@masscec.com or at 617-315-9355.
